REDBREAST® 12 CASK STRENGTH SINGLE POT STILL IRISH WHISKEY ARRIVES IN U.S.

New York, NY (February 6, 2012) – Redbreast, the best selling and most decorated Single Pot Still Whiskey in the world, announces the arrival of Redbreast 12 Cask Strength, a natural, full-flavored, non-chill filtered version of Redbreast 12 that is straight from the cask to the bottle. Redbreast has seen consistent solid growth in the U.S. as it continues to increase in popularity among whiskey enthusiasts.  Beginning in February, this highly anticipated cask strength single pot still whiskey from Redbreast – the only remaining traditional Irish pot still whiskey brand available in the United States – will be on sale in select retail and on-premise outlets nationwide. The extension has already achieved distinction from the Whiskey Advocate as Irish Whiskey of the Year for 2011.

“In response to repeated calls from whiskey enthusiasts and fans of the renowned and award-winning* Redbreast brand, the Midleton Distillery has now released, for the first time, a cask strength version of its seminal Redbreast 12,” noted Wayne Hartunian, Vice President of Whiskeys and Cognac for Pernod Ricard USA. “Redbreast is the fastest growing super-premium Irish whiskey in the U.S and the brand’s organic popularity and growth present the ideal platform for driving further innovation within this growing segment. This is the only ongoing bottling of a cask strength Single Pot Still whiskey from the Midleton Distillery, making it a very special and unique whiskey.”

Redbreast 12 Cask Strength is a pure representation of Redbreast 12 Year Old before water is added and the whiskey is non-chill filtered. Its aroma is an explosion of fruit – figs, dates, ripe banana, sultana, red apple and lime – combined with sweet vanilla and pine from the casks. In the mouth, Redbreast 12 Cask Strength offers the flavor of dried fruit along with a touch of citrus, aromatic oils and spices. The finish is exceedingly long and richly complex with fruit and spice slowly fading through sweet butterscotch to barley.

The Redbreast brand and specifically Redbreast 12 Year Old, was first launched in 1939 as the brand name given to the pot still whiskey supplied by Jameson to whiskey bonders before bottling at the distillery became the norm in 1968. Stocks of whiskey in bonders’ stores petered out, and thus Redbreast all but disappeared until Redbreast 12 Year Old was re-launched by the distillery in the 1990s as a single pot still whiskey.

Hartunian added, “Now is the perfect time to introduce this pure, full-strength pot still whiskey to the U.S. Market. Irish Whiskey is by far the fastest growing U.S. spirits category and includes the fastest growing premium spirit brand in the U.S. – Jameson**. The super-premium segment represents a great opportunity for growth as more high-end single malt, Bourbon and blended whisky drinkers are looking to expand their repertoire and Irish whiskey is the logical next step.

Redbreast 12 Cask Strength will retail for a suggested price of $65/750ml.
