Bars We Miss – Hawk ‘n Dove, Capitol Hill, Washington, DC

A saloon in its highest form, according to the Washington Examiner, the Hawk ‘n’ Dove was truly a Washington institution. With its reasonable beer prices and cleverly named sandwiches (such as the Copper Top, in reference to the dome of the nearby Library of Congress Jefferson building) it was a place to drink a beer and watch a game, but also a decent family restaurant.

A gas fireplace in every room, it was like a home away from home. Although beloved by generations of politicans, lobbyists, journalists, and Cleveland Browns fans, the Hawk ‘n’ Dove, has fallen victim to the gentrification sweeping DC’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, and closed last year.
