An Excuse to Drink – February 10, 1996: Kasparov vs. Deep Blue (Round 1)

Today in 1996, World Champion chess player Gary Kasparov fought his first of two battles with IBM’s chess playing computer “Deep Blue” in Philadelphia, PA. Kasparov ultimately proved victorious, outplaying the computer four games to two. Deep Blue would have the last laugh when it beat Kasparov in the 1997 rematch (3 1/2 to 2 1/2).

  • 1/3 oz. Curacao, blue
  • 1 oz. Vodka
  • 2/3 oz. Champagne

Glass: Cocktail

Garnish: 1 blue Cherries/Maraschinos

Stir with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Top with champagne. Garnish.

  • 1 oz. Blue Curacao
  • 1/2 oz. White Rum

Glass: Highball

Garnish: None

Shake with ice and strain into an ice-filled highball glass.
