On this day in 1828, author Jules Gabriel Verne was born in Nantes, France. Widely considered to be one of the father’s of science fiction, Verne wrote fantastical stories that featured air, space, subterranean and maybe most famously, underwater adventures.
His 1869 novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea featured the exploits of the anti-hero Captain Nemo and his submarine The Nautilus, so here are a few appropriate drinks:
Captain Nemo Cocktail

- 1 1/2 oz vodka
- 3 – 4 oz clamato juice
- 1 tsp horseradish
- 1/2 tsp worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 – 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
- 4 – 8 drops tabasco sauce
- 1/8 tsp celery salt
Glass: Highball
Garnish: cracked black pepper, 1 small squid (yes, that is what it said!)
Shake with ice and strain into an ice-filled highball glass. Garnish.
Nautilus

- 2 oz reposado tequila
- 2 oz cranberry juice
- 1 oz Freshly squeezed lime juice
- ½ oz simple syrup
Glass: Collins
Garnish: mint sprig
Shake with ice and strain into an iced collins glass. Garnish.
