An Excuse to Drink – January 30, 1933: The Lone Ranger Premieres on Radio

On this date in 1933, “The Lone Ranger” radio program premiered on WXYZ radio in Detroit, Michigan. The program would go on to run for 2,956 episodes, ultimately ending twenty-two years later in 1955. John L. Barrett provided the voice for the “masked man” during test broadcasts, George Seaton taking over on January 31st. In total, seven (or more) actors would play the role before the last original episode aired September 3, 1954. Reruns would be broadcast unitl July 24th the following year.
