Review – Celebrate the Lunar New Year With Tiger Beer!

As many people may not know, Singapore’s own Tiger Beer is one of the most popular beers on the planet. Available in more than 60 countries, Tiger Beer has been brewed since 1932 and is now produced in 11 countries in Asia, more than any other beer on the continent.

Here are some interesting facts about Tiger Beer:

  • Tiger has won over 40 international awards and accolades
  • Tiger won its first gold medal in 1954
  • Tiger was first available in a can in 1964
  • Tiger’s first TV commercial aired in 1973
  • Tiger is sold in more countries around the world than any other Asian beer brand

Some tasting notes from the brewer:

Tiger Beer is a classic continental pilsner. But unlike traditional pilsners, Tiger is full-bodied with a mild bite. The beer pairs perfectly with spicy food because of its clean, dry finish. There are also fresh touches of fruity aromatic notes.

Our thoughts:

We were lucky enough to obtain a few sample bottles of Tiger lager beer for this article and agree with most of the notes above. It has some nice malty character to it and unlike a lot of the mass-produced lagers (Beer Advocate categorizes this beer as an “American Adjunct Lager”) we are subjected to here in the United States, it does have a  degree of subtle hop-bitterness. It’s also a bit darker than what you would expect from this category. Good level of “lacing”  in the glass.
