An Excuse To Drink – Happy Margarita Day 2012!

Yes, everyone, even though we’re in the depths of winter (and the NFL payoffs) here, it’s time to celebrate National Margarita Day. To celebrate, we’re serving up some low-calorie options to the traditional recipe, courtesy of Partida Tequila:

It’s no secret that the amount of calories in cocktails can be ridiculously high—sometimes higher that a dessert or even an entire meal! But many people−even those who watch their weight—want to enjoy a sophisticated margarita on Wednesday, February 22 to celebrate “National Margarita Day” without the guilt…and now they can, thanks to the Partida Margarita.

Tequila Partida, an authentic, all-natural, Tequila made from 100% blue agave, is the special ingredient behind thePartida Margarita, a guilt-free drink created especially for this premium brand. With no garnish, salt and secondary liquor required (triple sec, which contains at least 100 calories per ounce), the alcohol and sugar content are lower than traditional margaritas—by as much as 200 calories!

Plus, the agave nectar used in this cocktail is an organic, natural fructose sweetener extracted from the blue agave plant. Sweeter than sugar—with a lower glycemic index rating than sugar, honey or maple syrup—agave nectar is water soluble and readily dissolves in cold beverages so it blends effortlessly in cocktails.

Anthony Dias Blue, former wine and spirits editor of Bon Appetit Magazine and one of the most respected spirits authorities in the US, said, “The Partida Margarita has everything going for it: fewer calories and less alcohol than the traditional margarita, a great tequila base, and it’s all natural.”

And according to Partida’s award-winning Bartender Ambassador Jacques Bezuidenhout, a San Francisco-based mixologist who was recently awarded Best American Bartender Ambassador at this year’s Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards Ceremony: “This cocktail is so delicious and easy to make. You just shake over ice, taste to preference.”

They aren’t the only fans of this high-quality spirit: Oprah Winfrey, Rosie O’Donnell, P. Diddy, Ludacris, Kate Hudson, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, tennis star Xavier Nady as well as spirit industry celebs Paul Pacult, Eric Asimov, Nick Passmore, Robert Plotkin, Steve Olson and Julio Bermejo have also praised Tequila Partida.

The recipe for the Partida Margarita is as follows:

  • 1 oz. lime juice (app. the juice from one lime)
  • ¾ oz. pure, organic agave nectar
  • ¾ oz. pure spring water
  • 1.5 oz. Partida Blanco, Reposado or Añejo
