According to most sources, the Harvey Wallbanger was created in 1952 by legendary bartender Donato ‘Duke’ Antone, who also created such memorable drinks as the Rusty Nail, the Flaming Caesar, the White Russian, the Freddie Fudpucker, and the Godfather. The drink was then promoted to world prominence by George Bednar, former member of the NFL’s St. Louis Cardinals turned Galliano-salesman.

Legend has it that the name comes from a 1950’s surfer who frequented Antone’s “Blackwatch” on Sunset Strip.

As far as its evolutionary pedigree goes, the “Wallbanger” is essentially a Screwdriver with the addition of the Italian liqueur Galliano.
