September 8, 1966: In celebration of the premiere of the original Star Trek, we have prepared a sampling of both “official” Trek cocktails and drinks inspired by the franchise.
Warp Core Breach
This was the most asked for drink at the now-defunct Quark’s Bar at the Las Vegas Star Trek Experience. If you had to classify it, I’d say it was a bastardized-tiki-drink-from-hell…
(Note: this is a modified single serve version. The original was basically 10oz of alcohol, so it’ was suggested for at least 2 people.)
- 2 1/2 oz White Rum
- 1 1/2 oz Lemon Rum
- 3/4 oz Dark Rum
- 3/4 oz Spiced Rum
- 1 1/2 oz Raspberry Liquer (DeKuyper’s suggested in original recipe)
- 1/2 oz 151 Rum
- 15 oz (3/4 of a bottle) Sobe Power drink (basically one of those “it’s got electrolytes!” kind of drinks)
Glass: a very large brandy snifter would probably do. Otherwise anything that’ll hold over 20oz of liquid, can hold up to dry ice and looks vaguely sci-fi…
Garnish: None
Stir alcohol with ice in mixing glass, pour strain into large glass add the 15 oz of Sobe Power and food-grade dry ice. Serve with 1 long sip straw.
Tamarian Frost
Albeit not your first choice if Darmok and Jallad took you on a pub-crawl of Tanagra, this less lethal drink was also one of the other more popular at Quarks:
- 1 oz Smirnoff or Stolichnaya Vanilla Vodka
- 1 oz Godiva Chocolate Liqueur
- 1 oz butterscotch schnapps
- about 2 oz half and half
Glass: Collins or Highball glass (see title picture)
Garnish: none stated, but would be good with chocolate shavings
Blend with ice, but don’t let the half and half “froth” too much. Serve in a collins glass.
