An Excuse to Drink: August 31, 1888: “Jack the Ripper” Cocktails

Notorious London serial-killer Jack the Ripper begins his reign of terror with the murder of Mary Ann Nichols in Whitechapel. Canonically speaking, “Jack” would go on to kill another four victims, ending with the November 9, 1888 slaying of Mary Kelly.

Jack the Ripper Cocktail

  • 2 1/2 oz Crown Royal Canadian Whisky
  • 3/4 oz Hiram Walker Butterscotch Schnapps

Glass: Brandy Snifter

Garnish: None

Shake with ice and strain into brandy snifter.

UPDATE: Ryan over at Boozeblogger.com suggests adding a few drops of grenadine over the top or a small pool at the bottom and float the combination of whisky and schnapps on top. He was even kind enough to send us a picture of his creation. Definitely adds a gruesome flair to the drink!!

Jack the Ripper Shot

  • 3 oz. Cranberry Juice
  • 1 oz. Jack Daniel’s Whiskey
  • 1/2 oz. Amaretto

Glass: Shot Glasses

Garnish: None

Shake with ice  and strain into chilled shot glasses.
