Well everyone, it’s Friday the 13th and its time to get all friggatriskaidekaphobic. From the Babylonians, to the Persians to the early Christians to the Vikings and even the Knights Templar (they were arrested on Friday, October 13, 1307) the number thirteen has been some seriously bad juju.
Since black cats, curdled cream/milk and opening an umbrella in the house are traditionally unlucky signs, here’s a few cocktail ideas!
Black Cat

- 1/3 part Kahlua®
- 1/3 part Hiram Walker® Anisette
- 1/3 part Tequila
Glass: Shot
Garnish: None
Layer slowly into a chilled shot glass starting with the Kahlua.
Cement Mixer

- 1 jigger Bailey’s® Irish cream
- 1 jigger lime juice
Glass: Shot
Garnish: None
Hold one shot of bailey’s in your mouth, and take one shot of lime juice. Mix rapidly in mouth by shaking head vigorously, then consume.
Umbrella Man
This one is doubly-unlucky, both the name and its “garnish”. recipe adapted from drinknation.com
- 1 oz. Irish Cream (Bailey’s)
- 1 oz. Drambuie
- 1 oz. Grand Marnier
- 1 oz. Kahlua
- 1 oz. Vodka
Glass: Collins
Garnish: Serve with a cocktail umbrella
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled Collins glass.
