“America’s Sweetheart”, Gladys Marie Smith, aka Mary Pickford, was born today in 1892 in Toronto, Ontrario. An iconic actress and producer of the silent film era, Pickford went on to be one of the original founders of The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

This cocktail was developed in 1920′s Cuba by El Presidente creator, Eddie Woelke. Recipe adapted from Gary Regan’s Bartender’s Bible
- 1 1/2 oz light rum
- 1 oz pineapple juice
- 1/2 tsp maraschino liqueur
- 1/2 tsp grenadine
Glass: cocktail
Garnish: maraschino cherry (sometimes omitted)
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish.

We made a similar drink recently and added grenadine for a little pink and flavor, but it had vodka instead of rum. Sounds delicious!
