3 Autumnal Cocktails for National Pumpkin Destruction Day
Halloween was a week ago and by now, your once beautifully carved pumpkin is now looking pretty sad. Never fear, for November 7th is National Pumpkin Destruction Day and is observed by smashing, blasting and bashing ex-Halloween pumpkins in every fun way imaginable.
This year, we’re marking National Pumpkin Destruction Day by taking Pumpkins who have long since given up the ghost and giving them new life as cocktails!
Pumpkin Bourbon Cider

This seasonal cocktail combines the trademark spicy finish of Basil Hayden with sweet pumpkin puree, crisp hard cider, sweet vermouth, aromatic bitters, fresh lemon juice and touch of nutmeg making it the perfect sweet and spicy cocktail for fall. Created by top mixologist Larry Piaskowy, of San Fransisco, CA, Basil Hayden’s Pumpkin Bourbon Cider cocktail will definitely be your treat of choice this Halloween!
- 2 parts Basil Hayden’s® Bourbon
- ¾ part Fresh Lemon Juice
- ½ part Sweet Vermouth
- ¼ tsp. Superfine Sugar
- ¾ part Pumpkin Puree
- 6 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 2 parts Dry Hard Cider
- 1 piece of Fresh Nutmeg (for garnish)
- 1 Cinnamon Stick (for garnish)
Combine pumpkin puree, superfine sugar, sweet vermouth, bitters and lemon juice into a mixing glass. Stir until sugar is nearly dissolved. Add Basil Hayden’s® Bourbon and ice.Stir well and strain into a cocktail glass. Top with dry hard cider. Garnish with grated nutmeg and a cinnamon stick.
- 1 1/2 part Cruzan® 9 Spiced Rum
- 1/2 part Cruzan® Vanilla Rum
- 3 tbsp Pumpkin Pie Filling
- 4 parts Hot Water
Combine all ingredients in a mug and stir until fully combined. Top with whipped cream and a drizzle of vanilla rum on the top to finish.
Smokey Pear and Pumpkin Sour
- 2 ounces Bombay Sapphire East Gin
- ¾ ounce Pumpkin Puree
- ½ ounce Xante Pear Brandy
- ½ ounce Simple Syrup
- ¾ ounce Lemon Juice
- ½ ounce Egg White
Shake hard and serve up or down in a rocks glass.
