Today we mark the 100th anniversary of Les Paul’s birth. Paul, an influential American jazz, country and blues guitarist and inventor was the designer of one of the first solid-body electric guitars that helped give rock and roll music its distinctive sound. Les Paul also pioneered many recording innovations in sound and recording such as overdubbing, delay effects and multitrack recording.
To celebrate his centennial, we have included a few Les Paul-inspired drinks:
Recipe adapted from Post Prohibition: Handcrafted Libations
- 2 oz Bourbon
- 3/4 oz Cynar
- 1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth
- 1/4 oz of maple syrup (1:1)
- Garnish with an orange twist
Stir with ice and strain into a double old fashioned glass with one large cube. Garnish with an orange twist.
A variant on the classic Gibson (ba dum tss!), adapted from the cocktail menu at XO Cafe
- 2 oz Bulldog Gin
- 1/3 Carpano extra dry vermouth
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. XO Cafe garnishes their version with house made pickledcocktail onions.
