Ah, the good ol’ hot toddy, the essential remedy for the worst days that winter can throw your way. Even though its reputed curative effects are now widely disputed, there’s nothing like a steaming hot beverage of the alcoholic persuasion to cure whatever ails you.
Legend has it that this style of drink made it into the British Isles via the East India company and usually consisted of a spirit, hot water, sweetener of some kind and lemon, but today, recipes can vary. The Scots take theirs with scotch (obviously) and throw in some cloves and cinnamon for good measure, the English swap the plain hot water for Black tea to concoct the ultimate “brown cuppa joy”.
Here in the states. bourbon is usually the weapon of choice, but thanks to some recipes from Tequila REVOLUCION, you can put a latin spin on this classic cocktail. - 1.5 oz. Revolucion Blanco
- .5 oz. Luxardo Amaretto
- .5 oz. Orange Juice
- .5 oz. Honey
Build ingredients in glass of your choice. **We like an Irish coffee mug. Add 2.5 oz. of very hot water from the kettle. Stir. Add “horsesneck” long orange peel studded with dried cloves.
Spiced Toddy Revolucion
- 1.5 oz. Revolucion Reposado
- .25 oz. Allspice Dram
- .5 oz. Maple Syrup
- .5 oz. Orange juice
Build ingredients in glass of your choice. Add 3 oz. of very hot water from the kettle. Stir. Garnish with an orange peel under a floating star of anise
- 2 oz. Revolucion Anejo
- .5 oz. Sweet Vermouth
- 1 oz. Rosemary infused honey (see note)
Build ingredients in glass of your choice. Add 2.5 oz. of very hot water from the kettle. Stir. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary pierced through a lemon half wheel
NOTE: To make rosemary infused honey, dissolve honey in hot water on the stovetop in a ratio of 1:1. Let cool for an hour with a bunch of rosemary in the pot. The rosemary flavor will infuse in the honey syrup. Carefully strain out solids. And enjoy rosemary infused honey.
