Today, in 1804, the famous pistol duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton occurred. The vice-president and the former Secretary of the Treasury squared off in the early morning hours at a popular New Jersey dueling ground known as the Heights of Weehawken and ended with Burr shooting Hamilton in the abdomen. Hamilton died the next day at two o’clock in the afternoon.

- 1 1/2 oz. bourbon
- 1/2 oz. applejack
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
- Several dashes grenadine
- Several dashes peppermint schnapps
Mix all ingredients with cracked ice in a shaker or blender. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
