Happy 2011 everyone! I for one am glad to see 2o1o finally get its ass out of town. Anyway, for those of you who may have over-imbibed last night, be thankful that it’s also National Bloody Mary Day here in the U.S.
This classic “hair-of -the-dog” cocktail has been the traditional savior of many a person over the years, and has a highly disputed origin. Like barbecue, everyone seems to have their own “official” recipe that they claim is the best. I’m simply going to go with Dale Degroff’s recipe:
recipe adapted from “The Essential Cocktail” by Dale DeGroff
- 2 oz Vodka
- 4 oz Tomato Juice
- 1/2 oz Fresh-squeezed lemon Juice
- 3 dashes Tabasco Sauce
- 2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
- 1 pinch each of salt and freshly-ground black pepper
- 1 dash celery salt (optional)
- freshly grated horseradish to taste
Garnish: lemon or lime wedge based on preference
Add items to mixing glass, add ice and roll back and forth between the tin and mixing glass to mix. Strain into iced glass and garnish.
